Friends of Brockwood Park Spring Gathering

12th – 14th May, 2017

The Friends of Brockwood Park Spring Gathering welcomes as its guest participant and presenter, Stephen Smith. Sometime Acting Principal, some years Academic Director, Stephen was for twenty years a teacher at Brockwood Park School. While living in California, he was for five years Coordinator of the Krishnamurti Center in Ojai, organising events and facilitating dialogues, an interest he continues to pursue. He is the editor of the most recently published Krishnamurti book, Insights into Education. Stephen’s presentation is entitled The Meaning of Meditation.

Participants are due to arrive in time for supper on Friday evening, following which a video recording of a relatively unknown discussion between Krishnamurti and the psychoanalyst, Dr David Shainberg, will be played. Recorded in New York City in 1983, this exchange explores the nature of memory, thought and the illusion of continuity of the self.

On both Saturday and Sunday morning the talks listened to will be audio recordings of the final two talks from the first meetings to occur in Saanen, in 1961. The Saturday talk focuses on the relationship of the conscious mind to the unconscious, whilst in the second talk, on Sunday, Krishnamurti explores the nature of the religious mind and death. These audio tapes will both be followed by group dialogues.

On Saturday afternoon there will be a chance to join an organised walk to The Grove – suffused with flowers and fragrances in May – and then go on to nearby woodland, carpeted with bluebells. On Sunday afternoon there will be an update on developments in the different departments at Brockwood Park, after which Stephen will give his presentation and respond to questions. The full programme for this gathering is shown below.
